I don’t read the newspaper or watch the news because it’s just too negative…

One morning, my husband woke up and opened the newspaper. He began to read the awful headlines to me and I immediately asked him to stop because all of that negative energy shakes me and brings me down. I explained to him that I stopped reading and watching the news years ago because I wasn’t feeling ‘informed.’ Instead, I felt that I was starting my day with fear instead of Love, and that goes against everything I believe in.

Many, pick up the newspaper in the morning or turn on the news so that they can feel informed about the world. The truth is, when you go to those sources, most of what you will find is fear driven. You can’t help but read the stories because you are generally appalled with the stories. However, while you are reading that story, or watching that newscast, your vibration (how you feel) is being lowered without you even realizing it. You unfortunately take on some of those negative feelings and that’s how you start your day!

What a truly awesome way to end an amazing day...⁣

Today was a self-care day for me. A much needed day to focus on my needs, wants, and desires to take care of my well-being. ⁣

Every day in my classroom, my students practice mindfulness. One of the practices they’ve mastered is mindful coloring. They learn how to focus on one thought at a time and just be in the moment. They learn this early in the year, like the first few days and they are six. This practice teaches them to stay in the moment, pay attention to detail, take their time and most important, trust themselves. ⁣

Sometimes, when you’re coloring your mind wanders and you make a mistake. You can’t always erase so you have to learn from it and keep moving on. You then have to problem solve on the fly if you’ve suddenly changed your plan or design unintentionally. ⁣

Hmmmm, it’s interesting, life is like that too. ⁣

I AM fearless. ⁣

Do I make mistakes? Sure. Do I wish I could erase things? Sometimes. But all in all, I’ve become fearless because I’ve removed the fears of not being good enough. I now love myself for the bad, the good and the indifferent. ⁣

When you step back, breathe and take life as it comes-staying in the moment, you quickly realize that fear is nothing more than False Evidence Appearing Real. ⁣

Self-care isn’t a nicety. It isn’t something that’s nice to do for yourself here and there. ⁣

It’s necessary for optimal well-being and it’s totally non-negotiable. ⁣

Ever wonder why they tell you to put the oxygen mask on yourself in the event of an emergency on a plane before helping others? It’s because without that oxygen you’re a goner. ⁣

You want to be a good parent, partner, person? Put the mask on you first. Taking care of yourself, filling your own damn tank...that’s what gives you the strength you need to do this thing called life. ⁣

It is a blessing and a curse when you feel things so deeply. ⁣

Some people call this over-sensitive. Others call it highly sensitive. I call it my daily life!⁣

It’s okay to feel things deeply. Honor who you are but protect yourself. Allow yourself to feel the feelings. You can’t heal what you don’t feel, yet let it move through you. ⁣

Heal the feeling. Discover where the emotional pain is coming from. What childhood memory or trauma is it tied to? What toxic belief is immobilizing you? ⁣

Then release it. Let go of what is no longer serving you. If it’s not serving you, it’s sabotaging you and that’s NOT self love. ⁣

We feel things deeply. We allow ourselves to be affected by others. The head and the heart are directly connected. ⁣

You can choose to hold on to emotional pain or you can decide it no longer serves you and let go. ⁣

The moment you decide you’re done holding on to the pain, you are free! Let go. If it’s not serving you, it’s sabotaging you and that’s NOT self-love. ⁣

Heal the feeling. Discover the root. What’s causing the emotional pain for you? What childhood memory or trauma is this tied to? What toxic belief is holding you back?⁣

Release the feeling. Allow this to go through you without judgement. Understand where it comes from, but also that it no longer holds power over you. ⁣
